33pt Injector Pump Socket

33pt Injector Pump Socket (also called a 33-point serrated socket, 33-spline socket, or multi-spline delivery valve holder socket) is a special tool designed specifically for Mercedes-Benz diesel engines.

This socket removes and installs the pressure valve holder (also known as the delivery valve holder) on Bosch-type inline fuel injection pumps. These holders are the large nuts or fittings on top of the injection pump that secure the delivery valves and related components. A regular socket won't fit because the holder has a unique 33-tooth serrated (splined) profile instead of standard hex or double-hex flats. Without this tool, you risk rounding off or damaging the valve holder during service, which can lead to fuel leaks, poor sealing, or costly pump repairs.

Specific Mercedes models using M8 XZN

Here are the most common Mercedes-Benz applications and models that use M8 XZN (8mm triple square) fasteners. These are frequently encountered during maintenance.

1. Rear Tailgate / Hatch Strut Mounting BoltsCommon on wagons and some hatchbacks:W123 series (e.g., 300D, 300TD wagons, 1977–1985)

Other older wagons like certain W124 or similar estates (varies by exact year/body style). The bolts holding the gas struts to the tailgate often require an 8mm XZN bit. Access is usually from inside after removing trim or speaker covers. Some versions may use a 10mm Allen instead, so double-check your manual for details.

2. Multi-Piece Wheel / Rim Bolts (Inner or Circumferential Bolts)R230 SL-Class (2002–2012), especially SL55 AMG, SL63 AMG, SL65 AMG

These are the smaller 8mm triple-square bolts that secure the two-piece or multi-piece alloy wheels together (not the main lug bolts, which are usually conical seat hex or Torx).

Very tight spaces and low torque (~12 ft-lbs); easy to strip if you use the wrong tool.

3. Engine and Accessory Bolts

Various V8 models (M112, M113, and some others) — accessory brackets, engine covers, or specific head/accessory bolts.

Older diesel engines in certain applications (some tool forums list M8 XZN for head and accessory work on select M102/M103/etc. families, though larger XZN sizes like M10 and M12 are more common for head bolts).
