Most common would be changing/replacing struts, coil spring, or the entire strut assembly. You would also use this tool when servicing the wheel bearing. You can easily remove strut from wheel bearing housing with one of these sockets. The wheel bearing housing clamps down very tight on the strut assembly-even with the bolt removed the housing is still firmly clamped to the strut. TDI tool 3418 is used to hold the camshaft in place during the timing belt service or reassembly of the cylinder head. Once the valve cover has been removed tool 3418 slides into the back side of the camshaft for a general timing location.

If the timing belt has been broken or is missing, this tool will locate the general
timing position of the cam as called for in the belt installation instructions.
