This pin inserts into a hole on the engine block to lock the crankshaft/flywheel at Top Dead Center (TDC) position. It's essential for properly setting engine timing, preventing the engine from rotating freely during procedures like timing chain replacement, camshaft removal/installation, VANOS unit service, or cylinder head work. Without it, valves could contact pistons, causing severe damage.

Precision-machined metal pin inserts into the block to engage a slot on the flywheel/crankshaft. Commonly used on a wide range of BMW inline-4, inline-6, V8, and V12 engines, including:

Flywheel locking Tool

Lock your flywheel safely during clutch service.

This flywheel lock tool was designed around a 2006 BMW 325i (E90) with the N52 engine and Getrag 6-speed manual. It positively locates on the bellhousing dowel at the 6-o’clock position 

Works for clutch replacement, flywheel swap (DMF or single-mass), and pressure-plate torque.

Flywheel locking tool specifically designed for the N52 engine paired with the Getrag 6-speed manual transmission (common in E90 325i/330i, 328i, 128i, E60 525i, etc.).

This tool locks the flywheel (and thus the crankshaft) from rotating while the transmission is removed. It's essential when 

Replacing the clutch and pressure plate

Installing or torquing the flywheel bolts

Working on the rear main seal or other transmission-related jobs

This tool engages with the teeth (ring gear) on the flywheel and bolts or braces against the bell-housing or transmission mounting points to prevent the engine from turning when you apply torque.

Adjustable Universal Flywheel Locking Tool 

Special tool designed to hold the engine's flywheel (or ring gear) stationary by engaging its teeth. 

This prevents the crankshaft from rotating while you apply high torque during repairs.

Primary Uses:

Removing or installing the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer bolt (often requires 500+ ft-lbs of torque).

Torquing flywheel/flexplate bolts during clutch replacement or engine rebuilds.

Removing/installing clutch pressure plates, belt pulleys, or timing components.

Locking the engine when the transmission/gearbox is removed or for timing belt/chain work. 

Especially handy for "universal" applications across many vehicles (e.g., Honda, Ford, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Opel/Vauxhall, VW air-cooled engines, and others) where the gearbox is dismounted, as the adjustable pins/slots allow it to fit various flywheel tooth patterns and bolt hole diameters (typically 92-107mm range on many models).
