Key details about the V17:

Shape & Design — It's a "C"-shaped or hook-like tool, about 3.25 inches long. You hook it around the spark plug boot (the rubber part connecting the ignition coil/wire to the spark plug), then pull to release it. This prevents tearing or stretching expensive plug wires, especially in tight engine bays where fingers can't get good leverage.

Common use  — Very helpful on modern engines with coil-on-plug systems or deeply recessed plugs (e.g., many V6/V8 engines from the 1990s–2010s).
